Privacy

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your body weight, the sex option you chose and your drink log are never sent to a server. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and page views; that is described below, together with what it cannot see.

What stays on your device

What the calculator stores and where
DataWhere it is keptHow long
Body weight and sex optionThis browser onlyUntil you close the tab, unless you choose to remember it
Drinks and their timesThis browser onlyUntil you close the tab, unless you choose to remember it
Country, units and time zoneThis browser onlySame as above

By default the calculator uses the browser’s session storage, which is cleared when the tab is closed. If you switch on Remember on this device in Settings, the same data is kept in the browser’s local storage instead, until you switch it off or clear it. Only one copy exists at a time.

None of this is put into web addresses, so sharing or bookmarking a page never includes your details. On a shared computer, leave “Remember on this device” off or use Clear my data when you finish.

Clearing your data

Clear my data in Settings deletes your details and every drink from this browser, including any remembered copy. Clearing your browser’s site data has the same effect.

What the server sees

Like any website, the server that delivers these pages receives the technical details of each request: the address of the page, the time, your IP address and your browser’s identification. Such requests may be recorded in server logs by the hosting provider for security and operation. They do not contain anything you typed into the calculator, because the calculator sends nothing back.

If you write to us

The calculator never asks for your email address. If you choose to report a mistake by email, using the address on the About page, you share your address and whatever you write with the site’s operator, through your own email provider and theirs. That is separate from the calculator, which still sends nothing. Your message is used to answer you and to correct the site.

Visit statistics (Google Analytics)

The published site at alcoholcalculator.com loads Google Analytics 4, a service of Google. It records that a page was opened, which page, roughly when, and how the visit went on: scrolling, links to other sites, the browser, operating system and screen size, and an approximate location derived from the IP address. Google sets cookies (named _ga) to recognise the same browser on a later visit. Google processes this data on the site operator’s behalf and under its own terms; the operator sees aggregated reports, not individual people.

What it cannot see: your weight, the sex option, your drinks, their times and the estimate. None of these are ever placed in a web address, a page title or an event, and the site sends no custom events at all. The statistics say that someone used the calculator, not what they entered.

The tag is not loaded on test copies of the site, and it stays off when your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or “Do Not Track” signal. A browser extension that blocks trackers also stops it, and the calculator works exactly the same without it.

Nothing else from third parties

  • No advertising and no advertising cookies.
  • Apart from the Google Analytics tag, no content is loaded from other companies: fonts, scripts and images all come from this site, and a content security policy tells the browser to refuse anything else.

If your browser blocks storage

Some browsers and private modes block storage. The calculator then still works, keeps your entries only while the page is open, and shows a notice saying so.

Changes

If a later version adds anything that changes these statements, such as usage statistics, this page will be updated first and the date above will change.
